VIRTUAL MEETING ROOM FAQ

What may be done with this service?


SLCPL will provide access to a Virtual Meeting Room via the Zoom Video Conferencing service for up to 300 people. Participants can video chat, text chat, share screens, record meetings, etc. Examples of virtual events might be a Meetup, a business meeting, a presentation, a study session, a social gathering, performance, and more.


What limitations are there with this service?


Events that are commercial or promotional in nature are not permitted. Users must also abide by copyright laws and comply with regulations as stated in the Meeting Room Policy.


Who is eligible to reserve a room?


Any City Library cardholder is welcome to reserve a virtual meeting room. If you do not have a City Library card you can sign up for one today. All residents of Salt Lake City and Salt Lake County can sign up online for a City Library Card free of charge.


When can I schedule a meeting?


Virtual Meeting Room availabiliity:
Mon–Thu · 10am–8pm
Fri–Sat · 10am–6pm


Virtual Meeting Rooms can be reserved for up to 2 hours. The first 15 minutes of your meeting is reserved for reviewing Zoom meeting features and transferring the host role to the designated participant. Please schedule your event start time with this in mind.


How do I reserve a virtual meeting?


Complete the Virtual Meeting Room application and allow up to two business days to process. If you have questions before submitting your application, please review the information included on this page or contact the Library’s Events Services Department at reservations@slcpl.org.


Is Zoom secure?


Security is very important to Zoom and they are continually providing enhancements. Basic security features include passcode, waiting room, mute audio/video, lock meeting, remove participants, and limit screen sharing. You can find additional security information on Zoom's website.


Is Zoom accessible?


Zoom offers several accessibility features, which are described on Zoom's website. Please note that some advanced features may only be available through third-party providers and not through the Library. If you have additional questions about these services, contact the Library’s Events Services Department at reservations@slcpl.org.


What technology do I need?


A Zoom account is not required to join a meeting. To use most features, you will need a digital device with a microphone, speakers, and webcam, as well as access to the internet. The Zoom application can be downloaded to a desktop or mobile device. You may also join from your web browser or by phone (long distance charges may apply).
